There are two ways to get to the islands: by boat or flight. The ferry is the most popular mode of transportation, and the trip from the port of Anacortes, located 90 minutes north of Seattle, is scenic.

There are frequent small-plane and float-plane flights between the San Juan Islands and Seattle, Anacortes, and Bellingham. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is the closest significant international airport.
